What makes Cactoctin Wildlife Preserve so cool? Well, there's several things! First, it has been in operation at this location since 1933, when it was known as the Jungleland Snake Farm. In the late 60s, it was bought by the Hahn family who has dedicated themselves to expanding the location. They are supported by the Global Wildlife Trust in helping to expand the human understanding of the animals around them.

Second, there are so many cool things to do here. Our first favorite thing is the canary house, where hundreds of birds (mostly canaries) come to land on you for feeding. This exhibit costs extra ($5 a person), but is worth the fun. There are certain times in the morning and afternoon for entrance, with a nap time for the canaries in between.

Making friends

They love shoes!

Some of the stranger animals I found today

Another cool thing to do is the safari tour (costs extra) where you board a safari truck that takes you through different sections of free roaming animals. You get a cup of food that you can feed to animals such as camels, buffalo, sheep, and giraffes. Watch your phones! I was feeding the large Watusi cow, and she inadvertently knocked my phone out of my hand with her wide horns. Ooops. The phone survived, and she got her treat. Keep an eye open for the large male bison named Bartie or Bertie. I thought he was a boulder when I saw him!

Hide the food, it's not safe anywhere

The male discovered that when you pretend to have a gimpy lip you get more snacks

So disgusted
